TavernCast – a World of Warcraft Podcast

The crew of the Taverncast have put on a fantastic halloween radio play, in the vein of Orson Welles famous radio play of the 30’s. The show starts with a standard, albeit short, episode of Taverncast, and turns into what seems to the listener as a radio channel reporting on mysterious blackouts in New Mexico, culminating over the course of an hour into what appears to be the invasion of the, by US goverment created, fish-men apparently turned against their human masters.… The Murlocs have come.

This is probably the single most awesome radio play I have ever heard. A fantastic effort on the part of the Taverncast crew… perfect late night Halloween listening for World of Warcraft fans!

Now I have to go an decide which account I wanna use.. my old one with my lvl 52 (soon to be 60) character, or my Collectors edition one with the cool Pet, cause using both might be a little expensive…

Toothpicks and Floss

Oke… so I, and millions like my dont floss or use toothpics enough, and we get to hear about it every visit to the dentists…

Well on my way back from work today, Andy Ihnatko pitched a rather good idea to me, curtisy of the brainfood, in which he basicly got his flossing done while waiting for his Mac to unfreeze, just by keeping the floss on his desk. Coincidentily, he also learned to play the ukulele this way.

So today I actually went and bought some floss and toothpics (first time in my life), and they are now sitting next to my laptop, having now actually been used and.. where they will stay, providing my lodger doesnt move them (and he will).

Will my next checkup occur without the burdering feeling of guilt? I will keep you informed.

Off to merry England

Well I am off to England thursday, spending time with the British side of the family.

Staying at my aunts, and they don’t even have a computer, so that will save me from the inevitable tech-support. It also means that I have no way to be online. I have already looked for Wireless access in the area; Starbucks or a pub with internet, but alas, it seems inlikely that anyone in that little town of Bishop-Auckland will even have heard of the Inkernet.

With a little luck I can get online at a café somewhere or something, and at least check my mail 😉 But other than that… lol.

I have loaded up my laptop with study material, I will also install WinDVD and some games, but I am already convinced I will be bored beyond meassure 🙂

The Eve of the War

No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man’s and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.

Sowly the imminent release of Steven Spielbergs version of H.G. Wells classic novel, is starting to stir the internet space, in advance of its release in the summer of 2005.

In March of 2005, Pendragon will release their own movie version, more true to the original book, as their version is set in England at the turn of the nineteenth century, whereas Spielbergs version is set in our own time.

Comparing the Spielberg trailer with the Pendragon one, its rather clear where the money, – and probably where the production value, went.

For a moment the poster art of the Spielberg version exited me, for reasons I will allude to in a moment.
But after seeing the trailer (not much to see yet, its more of a teaser), and reading some things about it, I doubt I will be more exited about that version, than I was about, say, Independance Day.

You see, neither of these versions exite me, nor have any adaptations so far, and certainly not this one, rofl.

There is only one version of this classic story that exites me.

I cannot accurately put into worlds what this musical does for me. My parents had it on LP, and I have listened to it as long as I can remember. It has always haunted me. Nothing, no movie, no book, has ever scared and impressed me so like this version did (of course you have to remember I was 5 or so when I heard it first). The absolutely amazing artwork by Geoff Taylor played a very important part of the experience of it for me. The combination left an impression on me so large, that I am sure it has played a large part of who I am now.

You can, therefore imagine, that I was rather thrilled to read the following over on WaroftheWorldsOnline.com:

“Earlier this year Jeff commissioned a large team of UK
animators to begin production of a feature length CGI-animated film based
on his Musical Work which is intended to be released in cinemas in 2007 –
and the team are making unbelievable progress. The film will sty true to
the HG Well’s novel, being set in Victorian England and will of course
make good use of Jeff’s music!”

Apart from that, there will be a new remastered and remixed DVD version of the Album coming out early next year, which I will be picking up of course.

6 hours of Civilization, and expanding my sword collection

It was our friend Omar’s birthday this weekend, so we went into the city to get him a goody.

We went to get Civilization: The Boardgame.
Now our whole gang has played the Civ games on the pc, and seeing the game so succesfully transfered to board was seriously cool.
After getting back to Sweetlake we went to Omar’s and had grill.

Though I was initially a bit hessitant to start playing so late on saterday night (Omar is not the most practicle person I know when it comes to planning), we had a lot of fun doing so, and I eventually went home at 7am this morning. I am not a great fan of board games usually, but I wont mind going back to this one with the gang.

We actually bought Civ at the Elf store in the Hague, and while we where their I noticed that finally one of the Lord of the Rings swords, The Ringwraith sword, has gone down in price.

However, looking around online now, to find a pic for this blog, I find that he US dollar prices on most of these online shops is considderably lower than what they are asking on the Elf shop. Perhaps I should find out how much shipping costs would be.

But since I am in actuality a loyal customer there, I did order BlacK Legion Blade from the Kit Rae collection, which in design is very similair to the Valermos – Sword of fire, from the same collection, which I already have:

I really love that shiny black finish and de pattern on the design. Very cool. It should be about 100 euro’s, but again I have to wonder if I am being ripped off.

Meanwhile my sister is more of a Hibben kind of gal. She saw Gil Hibben’s Jackal being wielded in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and wanted it thereafter.

There are quite a few other items that United Cutlery offers that I would rather like having, but its all so expensive! In my opinion they really offer some of the coolest collections from all the main sword and knife companies.

e importance of history (and blogging ;)

My sister actually posted on her blog! Wh000t!

I considder this a major milestone in my quest to get the entire world to start blogging! Bwhua ha ha!

For a first post its pretty big, and also raises a good question we where wondering about earlier. Why should history matter to us? Why is it inportant that we should know our history.

Now personally, I feel history is important, and personally I find it interesting. But I am having some trouble in actually justifying why the common man should actually care, even though I feel that he should.
